Hi All,

Our main landing gear tires have more wear on the outer edges and the inner edges look much newer.  I am guessing this is because this is where the wheels hit the pavement before the weight settles down on the gear and the tires become flat against the pavement...

So my question is, can you rotate the main tires so that I can start getting some wear on the inside edges (now the outside edges on the other main gear)?

Thanks,

Dico

Dico,

The short answer is...yes. I have done so and am
still operating with my original tires at 600+ hours. If I had not rotated the
tires, they would have had to have been changed at around 450. Of course the
tires must be removed and reversed on their respective rims. Moving the left
wheel to the right side will not help.

Just don’t wait too long to make the
rotation.  I had planned to do that, but when I removed the tires, they
were worn too badly on the outer edge to be safe even with really good tread on
the inside.

All -- I must warn you, consider the source when you are evaluating Bill's comment below.  This guy only lands once every 39 hours, so of course his tires are going to last longer regardless how they're aligned.

Legacy (must land every 5 hours or so)

Charlie,

You make a good point, BUT while the landing weight/stress on Bill’s tires is pretty minimal, they do bulge a bit at the bottom during taxi out and take off…
