Again, you probably checked this but,  I have
the same problem in my Glasair. There is an air leak on the passenger
side that triggers the squelch when that head set is close to the canopy.
Now that I have my Lancair the noise doesn't bother me anymore.

You might also check out Sigtronics equipment.  Some time ago when flying a Mustang II we discussed the noise problem with them at Oshkosh and after purchasing a intercom, and two headsets [not ANR] we were happy campers.  I did purhase a ANR for the Lancair from them and it works fine even at cruise.  I believe they designed some around a noisy AT-6.  They tell me Sigtronics is also USA made.  Earl

I just sent off a pair of my Telex Stratus 50-D's (ANR).  One started producing weird noises after a couple of years so I sent it back to them.  The circuit board that provided the ANR was corrupt.
