If you want to get technical, Lance built the first prototype in a
garage in Gardena, CA, I think.

I wonder if the FAA would let me fly off
my 40 hrs. on a cross-country flight from NC to OR...

The first Lancair in Gardena, Calif. yes.  But not in a garage; it was
in a single unit multi-tenant industrial building with a 8'x8' office.
I've got pictures.

I located the old prints, circa 1986, in a shoe box in our store
room.  I didn't find any pictures of the single bay industrial space
Lance occupied in Gardena.  I did find pics of #001 being built in that
industrial space.  When I was there, it was being built by Don Goetz and an
associate, while a photographer was there documenting the build, in order to
write the assembly manual. Lance was at Oshkosh at the time.

Check out the pictures in the Photobucket album to see how far we have
gone in 28 years:

I'll do it.  Give a little time to dig out the old prints and to
scan them.

Back in '87 I bought a two-roll set of construction photos that Don Goetz was selling; I'm pretty sure they were taken while building 001. I sent them to Lisa at Lancair last year.
