FROM THE PRESIDENT

by jeff edwards

Welcome to this edition of the LOBO eNews. I hope you all are enjoying the warm flying weather after a long cold winter. There are many great fly-in events across the country nearly every weekend from now to AirVenture and beyond. AOPA is sponsoring mini pilot events like the one they hosted two weeks ago near Indianapolis. Check out one coming to an airport near you.

Speaking of flying, LOBO will again host a forum and dinner event at AirVenture. So fly to Oshkosh this year and plan on joining your Lancair friends for a great evening!

Speaking of events, LOBO joins Lancair in celebration at Lancair’s 30th Anniversary Homecoming on August 29-31 in Redmond, OR. Sign up now for a fun filled weekend! Since you're going, you may as well join LOBO for our ground school, also in Redmond, scheduled for August 28, the day before the Homecoming. See the rest of the eZine for more details on these events.

Safety & Training

This fiscal year’s aviation safety statistics are remarkably good. EAA reports that there have been only 20 fatal experimental amateur built aircraft accidents to date. Remarkably, there were no fatals from mid November to February. I suspect that poor winter weather had a lot to do with these low numbers, as the number of aircraft accidents has been climbing with the improving weather. If you are one of those snow bound fliers who did not get much flying over the winter months now is the time to clean up and check out your Lancair and refresh your flying skills with some good, focused recurrent training. Click here to find a LOBO instructor in your area.

Thanks for reading, and we hope to see you all at OSH!

IV-P Inflight Door Malfunction

The June 2014 issue of NASA's ASRS Callback reinforces the old adage, "FLY THE AIRCRAFT!" In a report to the program a IV-P pilot wrote, "I increased the cabin inflow and adjusted the cabin altitude, with only a slight improvement of the annunciator panel. The door lock and door seal lights were in their normal lit configuration at this time. I recycled the door seal to test its integrity. Shortly thereafter, the door flew open, with resultant depressurization." Read more...
