Aerobatics

Forums:

Has anyone ever done loops in their 320/360 . Any pointers ? I did 5 hours training this past weekend at Patty Waffstaffs school ( st Augustine )  in their extra 300 . The instructor doesn’t see any issue with me doing them in the 360 . He says my skills are all in place . Just wanted to see if others have done it .

Guy I bought my 235/320 had done loops and potentially some other aerobatics in it.  I haven't tried it yet but that's me waiting to get pilot training as I know the airplane is capable.

I don't want to rain on

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but as an IAC member for over 20 years I thought a quick mention of the applicable regs might be useful.

FAR 91.303 prohibits aerobatic flight below 1500' AGL, within 4nm of a federal airway, over crowds or congested areas, and in various types of controlled airspace. FAR 91.307 requires everyone in the plane to wear a certified and inspected parachute if the pitch angle exceeds 30 degrees or the bank angle exceeds 60 degrees, unless you're flying solo.

No one wants to end up across the table from an FAA official, or worse yet an administrative law judge.

Oops, I forgot to mention

Oops, I forgot to mention that any aerobatic maneuvers you perform must be also listed on your aircraft's Operating Limitations.

Did the instructor personally

Did the instructor personally fly your Lancair or is he/ she just giving you an unsupported opinion? Consider parachute requirements, airspace, and how are you going to get out of the aircraft in flight should something go wrong, etc.. With a forward hinged canopy that may be impossible.
