Engine Mount

Forums:

Hi. New IV-P owner here. Purchased a 1994 which had a landing incident. Nose gear collapsed resulting in a prop strike. Engine is being rebuilt. Purchased a used Hartzell from RDD. When I took the motor mount off, and set it on a flat surface, it was not "true". Is that due to tweaking from the nose gear during the accident or is that a design feature to offset engine & prop torque. I would hate to get the mount straightened only to find out that twist is designed into it. TIA.

Robin,

Robin,

The IV series engine mount is not symmetrical, but has some offset built into it as you suspect. Recommend you contact Snowline Manufacturing in Bend Oregon to see if they will share the measurements. They were the original builder of the engine mounts and still build/repair them today.

Good Luck!!
Bob

Thanks, Bob. I suspected

Thanks, Bob. I suspected there might be some offset due to the amount of torque the 550 puts out.

Robin,

Robin,

For some reason, my follow-on comment did not make the forum...but the new version of the Snowline motor mount is substantially beefed up ffom the original. Suggest you ask them about reinforcing yours to the new standard and checking it at the same time...

BOB
